MonDell “Moose” Johnson, 79, of Middletown, passed way January 10, 2025, at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday, January 17, 2025, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. There will also be a gathering from 6-8 on Friday at the Middletown American Legion. Cremation rites will then be accorded, and burial will be at a later date.
MonDell was born November 1, 1945, in Springfield, IL., the son of Roy L. Johnson Sr. and Helen (Lomprez) Johnson. He married Loretta “Gail” (Gillmore) on July 5, 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1963-1966. Moose was primarily employed in logistics as a forklift operator. He was also a school bus driver in Middletown. He successfully completed a course in electronic pin setting for bowling alleys at Brunswick in Michigan. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, being on the pontoon boat, and dirt track racing. He loved the outdoors.
Survivors include his loving wife Gail Johnson, children: Willie (Shawn) Johnson, Brad (Jennifer) Johnson, and Missy (Mark) Lee; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and brothers Frank Johnson and Jerry (Diana) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son MonDell Johnson II, Grandson William Johnson II, and brothers Carl Johnson, Roy L. Johnson II, Everett Johnson, and Jack Johnson.
Memorial donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
