Charles E. “Chuck” Lindsey

Charles E. “Chuck” Lindsey, 86, of Middletown, passed away January 12, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born April 25, 1939, in Springfield, IL., the son of Bertice and Lillian (Reiser) Lindsey. He married Margaret “Peggy” Gard on July 12, 1958, in Athens, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2015. He was a design engineer for Caterpillar, retiring in 2001. Charles received a United States Patent in 1991 for his Tip-Relieved Spiral Bevel Gear. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing poker. He was a skilled gunsmith and a member of the NRA. He served as a volunteer with Middletown Fire for 20 years, and was a Trustee for Corwin Township, serving the Middletown area for 24 years.

Survivors include his children: Steve (April) Lindsey of Springfield, Illinois, Becky (Bob) Huddleston of Greenview, Illinois, and Debra Lindsey of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren: Bobbi (Joyce) Maloney, Michael Lindsey, Lindsey (DJ) Rudd, Lydia (Nathan) Wagner, Dylan
(Makynzie) Leach , Kyle (Brittnee) Huddleston, Jenna Huddleston, and Caleb Huddleston ; great grandchildren: Joseph Cater, Aiden Rudd, Evie Rudd, Paxtyn Huddleston, Ruby Rudd, Oliver Huddleston, and Spencer Wagner. Also surviving is his brother Don (Harriet) Lindsey of Springfield, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his daughter Lisa Leach.

Memorial donations may be made to Middletown Fire and Rescue.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. There will be no services at this time.
