Melvin E. Chrisman

Melvin E. Chrisman, 79, of Mt. Pulaski, IL., passed away June 23, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2026, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM also at the funeral home with Pastor Ron Otto officiating.

Melvin was born October 29, 1946, in Lincoln, IL., the son of Melvin C. Chrisman and Mary Colletta Swingle. He married Lois Davenport on September 11, 1967. She preceded him in death.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a Purple Heart Recipient.
Melvin was a mental health administrator at Lincoln Developmental Center until his retirement. He loved feeding the birds, gardening and planting flowers, his dog Jack and taking Jack for golf cart rides; Bingo, fishing, and camping. Above all else, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his daughters Melissa (Mike) Schackel and Margaret (Garrett) Eckhardt; grandchildren: Justin, Brandon, Briana, Faith, Zack, and Joseph; two great grandchildren Alaina and Danielle ; siblings Rita Barry, Marsha (Mark) Marston, and Mike Swingle; niece Monica Barry, nephew Jim Barry. Cousins, extended family members, and friends also survive.

Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, son Brian Chrisman, and one brother Richard Earl Chrisman.
